Basic Facts about ECOSOC Status

Consultative status provides NGOs with access to not only ECOSOC, but too to its many subsidiary bodies, to the various human rights mechanisms of the Un, ad-hoc processes on small arms, besides equally special events organized by the President of the General Assembly. Currently,4,045 NGOs enjoy consultative status with ECOSOC.

3. NGO Branch screening of applications

4. The Committee on Not-Governmental Organizations

5. ECOSOC Final Decision

When the Quango finally approves the Committee recommendation to grant consultative condition to an NGO, official notification is sent by the Secretariat. NGOs granted General or Special consultative condition must submit to the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, every fourth year, a brief study of their activities, in detail regarding their contribution to the piece of work of the United nations (Quadrennial Report).
